mish
Well this month as flown by slowly (oxymoron, I know). And just 30 minutes ago my mind was soaring with different things I wanted to write out, and as soon as I sit down they are all gone. I would talk about politics, but lets be honest, everyone is sick of that. OH! DID I MENTION I STARTED AN ETSY SHOP!
It's something I have always wanted to do, yet I never had a skill, time, or idea. And then all of a sudden I was lying in bed and I just up and decided I was going to do it! It's called MISH! CHECK MISH OUT
MISH is my favorite Chilean word, and I use it all the time, and some of my friends have been bugged by my use of it, (but that's only because they're jealous). It's a way to say, "Oh, interesting" or "hmm" but its "mish" (BTW's its pronounced [meesh])
So here's the origin story. Years ago my friend and I were in charge of hosting monthly parties at our apartment complex, so we would meet in his apartment and he would work on his leather business "Threaded Leather Co" (check him out, he's got some great stuff) and I would watch and my love of leather heightened, and it was all just so interesting. Fast forward about... 5 years I think and COVID was ruining everything (haha?). Jacob and I had just moved to Ivins UT, or in other words, the middle of no where, and I just couldn't continue with my last job for the life of me. I was so bored, and lost. I had no friends and, because of COVID, no way to make new ones. It was too hot to go outside for a walk, or hike or bike ride or take poop boy for a walk, so for nearly 2 months I just sat inside, all day, every day alone because Jacob had school. (okay, so this is a BIT dramatic, but I mean... have you met me?)
I did have lots of plans or goals or ideas. Maybe a second bachelors in computer tech, or graphic design. Maybe I would keep teaching dance, maybe just get certificates, maybe all of the above at the same time... (again... haha?) And then one day I saw James' (Threaded Leather Co) Instagram page and that night {like I said} I was laying in bed with all of these ideas swirling in my head, and it came to me: what are the things I love? Creativity, Organization & Puppies. So what can I do NOW that won't have to end when we move in 2 or 4 years? I could CREATE gear, and ORGANIZE a shop/business for PUPPIES/pets! And VOILA it all started coming together. I started looking up different materials and decided to start with leather. I watched a bunch of tutorials on THEYOUTUBE and read articles of which tools were essential for what I was going to attempt, and then I ordered the stuff and began drawing out my solutions to traditional dog-gear problems.
The first few collar attempts were just SAD to be honest, but after switching leather thickness and thinness, and playing with the design (and messing up a whole lot of leather) I finally landed on something I felt confident in, and that I liked (esthetically and emotionally)!
So I then spent lots of time perfecting those techniques so the design (that was working) looked nice from the edges to the gluing and stitching and dying and more. I played with other lengths and materials too and have come up with some pretty cool stuff I think. So to the 1 in 7000000000 person/people who reads this, check out MISH and show it some love.
xoxo
