madrid week 2 (tbt)

  1. What did you do?
    1. This week was similar to the past days. I finished going through the final reports just this morning and then I got started on actually editing the website. I had previously read and gone through it, but not I am going from the back side and making changes (but not yet the changes I took note of those first few days).
  2. Who did you interact with?
    1. Again, I mostly interact with Clara, but I am getting to know the other workers as well. There are quite a few Americans working there so it’s interesting how little Spanish I am speaking.
  3. What went right?
    1. I think everything is going right. I like who I work with. They all have similar opinions, and it is interesting in reading the final reports of this years Fulbrighters that they all tend to have similar opinions as well. They are all from different backgrounds and races but they all already think pretty similarly about the world and what is happening in it. If I were to give a report to Fulbright I would mention that although they on the outside appear to be diverse, their opinions are either very influenced by one another, and the past year, or they are all just the same type of people. (although there were a few, but out of about 150..)
  4. What went wrong?
    1. Nothing that I can think of.
  5. Any new responsibilities?
    1. I am now making direct edits on the Weebly site.
  6. What kinds of professional competencies are you developing?
    1. I am learning how to make a Weebly and learning how to work on a PC, which is actually a lot harder than I thought it would be.
  7. What cultural experiences did you have?
    1. This past weekend was the celebration of San Isidro, which was so fun to participate in! We went to a concert, that was a bunch of up and coming Spanish pop stars, and a few better known stars. That was a pretty typical concert, although I was surprised how much influence american music has, almost every song they played in-between artists was in english. Then there was a night of Latin dancing, like salsa, bachata, cha-cha etc, which was really fun because I have been dancing my whole life, and I taught my roommates and some other interns how to dance. The most incredible part was the firework show at el Parque Retiro. It was INCREDIBLE! I have never seen a more beautifully choreographed show in my life. I was in awe. I didn’t see how any of these events related to a saint, but it was fun and a good way to see the culture.
  8. Anything else of interest happen?
    1. Today we started talking about politics at work and that was scary, seeing how heated they ALL got about everything that is happening. Also, the other team (working to send Spaniards to the US) wants me to help out with their orientation, which would be really fun! I love planning and helping out with events, so that could be a really cool experience.
