madrid week 4 (tbt)

  1. What did you do?
    1. Well this week I was added to Education Spain as well, as their intern dropped out at the last second, so on Mondays and Tuesdays I will be with them, and Wednesday and Thursdays with Education USA. So this week I have been helping team Spain get organized for the new grantees for ’18-’19 and any making billing forms to send to the american universities. I also did a practice translation (although they didn’t say it was, I can see right through that, hah) and she said I would start translating the letters of recommendation that weren’t written in English next week. (or this week that’s beginning). With team USA I have been finishing up the website and making sure all the pages are the same, as we keep getting new ideas to add so then we have to update each page, as well, we were prepping all week for the big year end event they had for the ’16-’17 grantees which was on friday! That was really fun! The seminar was a little off topic though, the lady talked for about an hour about how everyone should go have these study abroad experiences, and promoting her program that does it (at a fulbright event) and making jokes how her program was better, so everything she said was just a little off, and also preaching to the choir. It was a cool experience as well to be a Mormon in those experiences and be able to be a normal person when they find out I am Mormon, so someone covered from their neck to their ankles and who’s scared of alcohol and those who drink. (which sadly is some peoples idea of mormons)
  2. Who did you interact with?
    1. I have started working with Michelle, one of my new directors, and also Guy, the head honcho for Team Spain (as I call it). I have seen and talked to Victoria, the Director of Education USA, a bit more in this past week.
  3. What went right?
    1. It’s been a good week! It is fun have new things to do and have a day/week that changes a bit more. I loved working just with Team USA, but this is fun too. :)
  4. What went wrong?
    1. Nothing to tell!
  5. Any new responsibilities?
    1. Working with Team Spain! Yippie!
  6. What kinds of professional competencies are you developing?
    1. I get to do some higher level translations, which will be great experience to have because ideally, I would love to work in translation.
  7. What cultural experiences did you have?
    1. I have been going out to breakfast with the crew but also the cocktail was a lot of fun. It’s fun to get all dressed up, and although all the attendees were american, it was still fun to see how Spaniards throw a party.
  8. Anything else of interest happen?
    1. Everyone was aware that there was an intern because they had be talking about me (and apparently saying good things) and so they all said, “Oh you’re the intern! How’d you get that set up!” when they met me.
